In web design, it's essential to ensure clear readability on various devices and screen sizes. With Dora, we offer two methods for creating responsive text: Breakpoint and “Fit Width” We’ve gathered the best practices to optimize your text presentation below.

1. Resizing using Breakpoints

Dora’s Breakpoint allows you to define different device screen sizes or widths and create responsive designs. Thus, by setting different font sizes based on each Breakpoint, we can ensure our text is an appropriate size on each device, providing a better user experience.

While designing, be sure to thoroughly test and adjust to ensure text size and readability on various devices. You may also need to consider factors such as line height and font family to achieve more consistent and aesthetically pleasing typography.

2. Resizing using “Fit Width”

You may also use the “Fit Width” option to resize text elements based on the dimensions of a parent container.

Benefits to using Fit

  1. You can avoid manually setting different font sizes for each Breakpoint, resulting in a more concise style library.

  2. "Fit Width" can ensure appropriate text sizes depending on varying column widths in a responsive grid layout or other parent container size changes.

Under “Fit Width”, the smallest font size is 12px (based on browser restrictions).

3. Best Practices for Typography

Regardless of the method you use, the following best practices can help you create elegant and efficient responsive typography:

Work from low-to-high fidelity

Start with a basic responsive design and gradually add more advanced styles and features. This ensures usability and better text presentation across various browsers and devices.

Balance Font Sizes

When setting font sizes, it's essential to strike a balance between size and reading experience. Oversized text can lead to less compact content, while undersized text can affect readability. When designing responsive text, testing on real devices is crucial to ensure text size accommodates users with varying screen sizes.

Avoid frequent resizing

Frequent fluctuations in font size can create an unpredictable experience for users and impact their reading experience. When setting font sizes, try to avoid frequent adjustments within a short distance, unless specific design requirements demand it.

In summary, you can create more elegant, efficient, and user-friendly responsive typography. Remember, as a crucial component of webpage content, text plays a key role in responsive design. Its appropriate presentation directly impacts users' reading experience and impression of the webpage.
